It happened so suddenly; I had no time to react. It was meant to be an early morning drive into the outback and the plan was to get some distance under us before the sun turned the road into a hot pan.
We were driving along the 294 Bullen Road and had just crossed Roe Creek at Alice Springs when all of a sudden, two Kangaroos ran across the road. The one in the lead hit the side of the bonnet and I swung hard to the left trying to avoid the other one, went off the road which was no biggie for my hardy 4×4 but the sudden rough soil and speed caused me to bang my hand hard on the steering.
I finally stopped the vehicle and got out to check on the Kangaroos. I need not have bothered – they were running off into the wild with the male chasing the female. I looked at my watch to check the time and that is when I notice that the crystal on my Tag Heuer Monaco Automatic Chronograph Calibre 12 watch had completely disintegrated – probably happened when I banged my hand on the steering.
We got back three days later and I took the watch to the one and only watch repair centre in Alice Springs. The technician there said he would have to send it to another repair centre in far off Sydney. My fiancée suggested I get myself a “proper watch” – one that can take a beating and not get easily knocked off. The technician nodded his head and suggested Casio G-Shock but sadly, he did not have those in stock.

The fiancée so seems to know a lot about watches, says the G-Shock is a line of watches that are designed to resist vibrations and mechanical shocks. They are primarily designed for use in extreme rough conditions.
Most G-shocks are a combination of digital and analog and usually have a countdown timer, stopwatch feature, backlight and water resistance. The Casio G-Shock Analog-Digital GA-110RG-1A apart from shock resistance also has magnetic resistance.
I can also select from amongst 29 time zones. It has a 1/1000-second stopwatch, a countdown timer, 5 daily alarms (with 1 snooze alarm), hourly time signal, full auto-calendar (up to the year 2099) and a 12/24-hour selectable format. And dig this; the watch case is a massive 5.5 cm so I can don’t even need to lift my hand off the steering to see the time. The accuracy is ±15 seconds per month. What more can I possibly need? And just in case I go off the deep end in some wild river, the watch has 200meter water resistance. Perfect!

In response to your request for a review on my purchase from DOWNUNDERWATCHES I can say the following, I address myself for this particular watches to DOWNUNDERWATCHES since they claim to be Australia's premier online watches store. This particular model is not available in store in Australia, not that I know off, therefore the advertised Australia's premier online watch store induce me to believe that the item was available in Australia but only from online orders. It turn out not to be so but from Singapore apparently. So, the claim that delivery is made within three days turn out to be three weeks. This detail should be indicated clearly to people in Australia. Other than that the delivery was made by DHL and the watch received in good condition some ten days latter. The watch is exactly as I expected it would be, well packaged, no complaint whatsoever to make about it. It would be better for the retailer to indicate that the delivery to Australia will required two weeks instead of saying next to day of dispatching leaving the impression that the goods is from an Australian distributor which physically it is not. Orient watches are not well represented in Australia by retailers if not at all. Seiko dominates the market amongst other brand. Orient is no more made in Japan as it was in the past, the factory with the name Epson is now in Thailand, the product is still of high quality and genuine as it has been expected from the original manufacturer in previous years from Japan. Epson has absorbed the brand name Orient which remains nevertheless a high quality product originally exclusively from Japan. Orient watches are of high quality until today.

The watch was as good as I expected, being refurbished and works accurately with minor blemishes. "Downunderwatches" is Singapore based, so I was surprised to have to pay additional fees for the foreign import.
